Make Your Outdoors Extraordinary With Landscape Lighting Techniques

Landscape lighting creates visual appeal and dramatic effect depending on how light illuminates. This is called the landscape lighting technique. And did you know that through this method, you can turn your home from ordinary to extraordinary?

With proper outdoor lighting, the outdoor space in your home maximizes its functionality and extends its availability to be used even after dark. Thus, it makes your outdoors more safe and secured while sustaining its beautiful aesthetics.

In this blog, we will share with you the different types of landscape lighting techniques that surely would elevate and enhance the beauty of your home at night.

The most commonly used landscape lighting techniques:

Up-lighting

This is a well-known lighting technique that can be applied both indoors and outdoors. It strategically creates an effect when placing a lighting fixture on the ground and pointing it up. This lights on upwards which creates ambiance in the space. This is most commonly used to highlight trees or architectural details.

Silhouette Lighting

This lighting technique creates an extreme drama effect in a good way when used. The light draws attention and creates an eye-catching contrast to highlight a subject, house feature, or a design of the house exteriors or a building.

This technique accomplishes two things at once; lighting up a subject and lighting the background, which is good to use on gardens and/or architectural buildings.

Wall Washing

This technique is used on the flat surface of the outside walls of your house where the light can fall down in a uniform way. This creates an illusion of emphasizing the wall area making it wider and grander. And, at the same time, creating a smooth effect on the wall by eliminating the shadows.

Wall Grazing

Unlike the wall washing lighting technique, wall grazing is emphasizing the textures and creates shadows on the walls. This adds depth, texture, and dimension to the architectural features. You may commonly see this lighting technique on big architectural buildings’ facades at night.

Path Lighting

From the word itself, the path lighting technique is used to light up pathways or walkways. This enhances the area for you to walk on at night safely and avoid any trip hazards.

Deck Lighting

Lighting is added on steps or in between an elevated area like from the ground to the patio to emphasize that there’s a step and avoid any mishap when walking. Thus, it also creates an ambiance making an atmosphere of calmness and warmth in the area where the deck lighting is in place.

Moon Lighting

This lighting technique is when a light is placed high in the tree or structure that replicates a gentle silvery glow of the moonlight. The effect of this lighting is almost natural which is a good idea at night as people would think that the light the fixture illuminates is coming from above (from the moon). And when the breeze blows and moves the branches and leaves, the shadow on the ground follows which is soothing and calming. Furthermore, it can also illuminate light in the darker areas of your outdoor spaces.

In Conclusion

In reality, there are many other lighting techniques to consider for your landscape. But it will all depend on how it will fit into your home. If you’re undecided which techniques should be used for your landscape, you can always hire a professional in this field. By doing this, it will save you a lot of time and save up money.

Professional lighting contractors would always explain the details with you during the consultation before starting the projects. They will give you an ample amount of knowledge and perspective so you will know what your landscape would look like once the project is done.
