LED Lighting

One of the innovations that has made landscape lighting more affordable than ever has been the development of LED lighting. These lights offer significant benefits and upgrades over traditional lights and as such can give a property owner significant cost savings in energy and maintenance.

What is LED

LED, or light emitting diodes, are semiconductor light sources that emit a low intensity infrared light. They first were used with electronic components in the 1960s and are still used today. Originally appearing as only the color red LEDs have been manipulated over time to be able to display nearly any color. The first LEDs were extremely energy intensive and thus not practical for anything other than electronics until the 2010s when they became much more efficient. Today LEDs are used in nearly anything that needs to be lighted, from stop lights to flash lights to exterior lighting.

The benefits of LEDs

The use of LEDs with a landscape lighting system gives the owner several advantages. LEDs last a long time, that is it is possible for them to last around 100,000 hours and can operate continuously for 11 years before the bulbs or diodes need to be replaced. If only used at night a LED light can potentially last for up to 20 years. Compare that with your typical incandescent bulb which can only last around 1,000 hours and it becomes apparent which is better. During that time LED lights will also waste less energy. LED lights convert somewhere from 80-90% of energy into light, a significant different from a standard bulb which is about 20% efficient. This means less energy is wasted and converted into heat and less electricity is used to power them, 50% less.
Consider than a LED light also aims light at a source rather than emitting light all around the bulb so it provides much more efficient illumination and when the bulb is turned on it reaches full brightness almost immediately. No need to wait for it to warm up and reach full brightness. LED lights are much more environmentally friends as well. No toxic chemicals or dangerous materials like mercury are used to make them and they are also recyclable as well. LED lights also do not have any UV or IR emissions, perfect for anyone or anything that is sensitive to them.

LEDs are great, make that choice today!

LED lighting is not only more efficient but it offers significant cost savings over the course of its life. If you currently have landscape lighting with incandescent bulbs you will see a significant difference in the quality of the lighting alone. If you are looking to install a landscape lighting system then what are you waiting for? LED lighting systems are amazing so why not take advantage of the savings that they offer, make your home look like it never has before all the while being more environmentally friendly? It is a win-win for everyone involved!
